Continuing the theme of lots and lots of leather in the fall 2019 fashion trends are leather suits. There were both skirt suits and pantsuits made of leather on the runways this season. They came both from brands who have been crafting with the material for decades, and from brands that only work with it occasionally. It’ll be interesting to see how this trend will manifest in real life!
Scientists agree that we’ve reached a point of no return as global temperatures continue to rise, so the environment was definitely on the mind of quite a few designers, who used recycled materials and made explicit pro-earth statements during and after their shows. Using recycled and sustainable materials shouldn’t be merely a trend – it should be standard practice in fashion, but unfortunately that’s not the case.
The biggest trends to come from the Spring 2020 runways at Fashion Week are bound to be some of your favorites, mostly because they will all reinvigorate your wardrobe with quirk or flair, and they aren't hard to pull off. Whether it's the new puff sleeve — which you can decide to flaunt in the form of a bishop top or your next vacation midi — or the striped knit dress, you won't have to think too hard about styling these looks.
Leopard wasn’t the only popular print for the Spring/Summer ’19 show season. Tartan also appeared on the streets of New York, London, Paris and Milan. Of course, in true fashion week style, the traditional print wasn’t worn subtly. It was donned all over in eye-catching colours by the fashion pack. Want to try the look for yourself? Pick up a tartan suit, jacket or pair of pants that features the classic pattern in unique and bold colours, such as red, blue, green and yellow.

Style Notes: This item's popularity probably has a lot to do with the fact that The Matrix was such a huge hit—everyone wanted to wear Neo's long leather coat. But because that maxi silhouette isn't exactly practical (and is more associated with goth kids), it evolved into this shorter form instead, as seen on Winona Ryder and on Kate Moss. Today, you'll rarely find a cool girl in a leather blazer—it's all about the classic biker.

The styling at Jonathan Simkhai was particularly playful, with silky camisole dresses worn over pajama-like pants, and a set of silky trousers and blouse looking like a full pajama set that was worn with a neckerchief worthy of flight attendant uniform. Satin trouser and blouse sets at Sies Marjan also had comfy pajama vibes, although precise tailoring made sure it was clear they were intended for the office or evening event.
Black trench coats gained fame in the late ‘90s/ early 2000s when costume designer Kym Barrett dressed the cast of The Matrix in black leather trench coats (okay, Trinity was mostly in PVC), which billowed strikingly during action scenes. Nearly 20 years later, times are pretty bleak, so what better way to shield ourselves than with one of these trenches?

Celebrities were the style icons of the ’90s. Musicians, actors and the odd model inspired the sartorial choices of a generation. Outfits were copied and styles recreated, all while never failing to celebrate individuality. Everyone wanted to look like their favorite musician, be it Britney Spears, Madonna, Gwen Stefani or one of the Spice Girls. Britney offered the schoolgirl look while Gwen Stefani promoted grunge, and Madonna had her unforgettable Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra.  The Spice Girls celebrated originality with each boasting a different persona. And every ’90s girl knew which Spice Girl she was, whether it was Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty or Ginger. Kate Moss was the ultimate style queen while Drew Barrymore and Winona Ryder were just as stylish off the screen as they were on.

Wow! The very sound of it makes me nostalgic. From the flower printed ones to the front slit, buttoned, A-line, distressed, midi and polka dots, we were spoilt for choice. One good thing with denim skirts was the fact that it would suit anyone irrespective of the age, personality or body type. I can’t remember what went wrong back then, but they were taken away just like that. But, we are just so thankful that these are coming back slowly but surely. So, if you’ve seen a denim skirt and are in two minds, just go for it already!

List 2019 Fashion Trends

As we enter 2019, we’re turning over a new sartorial leaf. Gone are the days of Barbie pink (though we loved it while it was here!), denim bike shorts, and the like, as we usher in some of our newest favorite trends for the coming year. The name of the game is exaggerated tailoring: We're embracing puffy sleeves, asymmetrical silhouettes, and more statement-making trends that are best worn with tailored separates or suiting-inspired styling pieces. We’ve taken our streamlined closets into a more experimental realm, no longer happy with just the wardrobe basics. As you complete that end-of-year closet clean-out and make room for the new pieces of 2019, here are the trends everyone will be wearing this year — and how we’re shopping them.

Fashion Trends In 2011

Typically, we think of celebrity sunglasses as big and fabulous. But over the past few months, they've been getting smaller and smaller. Little, oval frames have been seen on everyone from Lady Gaga to Kendal Jenner. If you're looking to switch up yours come 2018, these tiny shades are the way to go. When the 90s trend was initially picking up, it felt like a very temporary thing and a fad that will eventually fade. Surprisingly that’s not the case, and the designers are only expanding horizons. One such trend was the backpacks that felt so old school, but now brands like Chanel, Burberry, and many other big brands have signed up to this style. And, you should too.

Culottes are a type of cropped trousers heavily associated with cool French girl style, and they’re having a comeback in the fall 2019 runway trends. They’re super practical for autumn, especially if you live somewhere a little warmer, especially as office wear. At first glance they may look like an A-line skirt, which makes them a playful choice that injects fun into professional settings.
Gender play at Vaquera consisted of male models in suede skirts, and comfy, oversized, and even ridiculously oversized garments, including a series of items made to look like a child playing in their dad’s blazers or button-up shirts. A collection of alt and gender non-conforming models at Gypsy Sport hammered home a message of inclusivity and body positivity, while also showcasing some of the sexiest lingerie of the season.

Fashion Trends In The 1990s For Men

It seems that next summer is going to be all about showing off your pins with plenty of designers sending the tiniest of shorts down the catwalk. While Chanel paired jersey hotpants with tights, Etro gave the trend an officewear spin, Saint Laurent and Brandon Maxwell betted on leather and Isabel Marant, Ferretti and Givenchy made a case for the denim cut-off comeback.

Westwood was criticized for pushing an anti-consumerist message while also encouraging the sales of her next collection. That being said, the designer is known for practicing what she preaches, by using recycled and sustainable materials in her collections and partnering with environmental organizations like Greenpeace. Her messaging may have been off, but the message itself was undoubtedly correct.
’90s hairstyles were anything but boring. Youthful and playful, hair in the ’90s gave birth to several iconic styles. “The Rachel” was the most popular haircut of the decade with women everywhere taking photos of Jennifer Aniston’s Friends character to their salons. Choppy layered and framing the face, “The Rachel” epitomizes ’90s hair. For those who didn’t do the chop in the ’90s, up-dos were standard.  The half-up-half-down look was modern and simplistic while the schoolgirl look gave us pigtails which morphed into two mini buns. Adding more fun to ’90s hairstyles were an array of hair accessories. Scrunchies, butterfly clips, bandanas, and colored hair streaks were all worn with pride. And how could we ever forget about crimping?
While the runway showcases what’s coming next in fashion, the streets display not only the future but also what’s on-trend right now. So, if you’re looking to keep your wardrobe up-to-date, the world’s top street style stars have the inspiration you need. Every season, these stylish ladies debut the latest and greatest fashion looks, and Spring/Summer 2019 was no exception. From Paris and Milan to London and New York, every fashion week from the month featured outstanding outfits and lust-worthy looks. Here, we’ve rounded up the top street style trends from the season for you to add to your shopping list.
You may remember this iconic runway image of three models in the most fabulous jewel-toned coats for Max Mara's fall 2019 runway show. No one does the monochromatic outfit better and you can bet these must-have pieces will inspire other fashion houses to follow suit. Whether you go for a teal coat or a fuchsia-colored silk top, get ready to brighten up your all-black fall wardrobe.

Supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss catapulted the slip dress to new levels of infamy in the '90s. It's no secret that the last decade of the 20th century was all about minimalism in every sense of the word. But this '90s fashion trend proved just how minimal style could truly go. Slip dresses left little to the imagination, hugging every curve.

Fashion Trends Fall 2019 Men

There was a time in fashion when men and women dressed up similarly, more like the fashion grunge movement. That’s how the heavy-duty combat boots started, and Doc Martens came into existence and swept the fashion world. You might relate to Doc Martens if you’re a millennial. Otherwise, you know what I mean when I say combat boots, don’t you? For a while, it felt a little ridiculous to wear boots with slip dresses, skirts, jeans and everything. But, trust me if you can carry it off the way it should be, you will look funky, stylish, chic and comfortable.
The Celine show was opened with a pair of pleated culottes in a neutral brown, with more versions showing up on the runway as the show progressed, making it clear that these pants are going to be worn in offices all over the world in the coming season. It was actually a throwback to old designs from the house, and we gotta say it was one of our favorite iterations of the trend this season, likely because it was true to historical designs.

Since her breakout role in the controversial cult film Kids, Chloë Sevigny has been a "cool girl" beyond typical grunge queens and bubblegum pop girls. Known for her obsession with vintage and her playful take on fashion (she's considered one of the first true street style stars), she became the ingenue every designer wanted as their date at awards shows.
The corsets in the Dion Lee collection gave structure to some flowier materials, and boy were they structured. The corsets were made up of thick, visible boning, with a square neckline, looking rigid and contrasting against the curvy shape they emphasized in the body. They were often paired with workwear, another contrast that we greatly appreciated.

Opening the Adeam show, for example, there was a deep yellow trouser and blazer combination that could be worn in any semi-casual workplace. The blazer was fitted with four sizable pockets on the front – big enough to carry a phone, wallet, a couple of pens, a makeup compact, keys, and whatever else one might need! Other pocketed looks in the collection included a skirt with pockets around the calves and a cape with large black pockets.
Also noteworthy are the labels that center sustainability in their production process and find ways to limit their carbon footprint at every stage, like Mara Hoffman (who released a gorgeous lookbook instead of presenting at fashion week), Creatures of the Wind, Gabriela Hearst (whose show audience included children from Our Children’s Trust, the organization suing various governments for infringing the youth’s right to a stable climate), and Stella McCartney who is considered one of the leaders in sustainable design.
Like the clothing, the shoes of the ’90s fell into the same trend categories. The grunge movement created an army of men and women alike wearing heavy-duty, combat boots. They were tough, gritty and paired with everything from slip dresses and florals to flannel shirts and frayed jeans. The minimalist trend also had its staple shoe in the way of Birkenstocks. Simplistic and comfortable, Birkenstocks came in a variety of styles and colors but still had that uniform feel. Platforms were popularised by the pop music scene, in particular, the Spice Girls. Converse’s Chuck Taylors, Manolo Blahnik’s Mary Jane style shoes, and classic pool slides were also on high rotation.

Just when you think all of the possible forgotten looks from the 1990s have remained hidden, along comes another one. How much do you want a really ridiculously small bag right now? And how much better would it be if it had tiny handles and was rendered in silk-satin (see Kate Beckinsale below)? Or what about those '90s Kate Moss images you come back to time and again for inspiration on what to wear on a night out? We've recently rediscovered a love for old-school SJP and combat trousers, too. The revivals are coming in thick and fast, people. Thick and fast.
We can always trust a brand like Salvatore Ferragamo to offer interesting leather pieces, with a dark red leather skater dress paired with purple accessories easily drawing our eye. Tod’s is another label known for their leather creations, and we loved a ‘60s-inspired shift dress with long sleeves made of Dark Cheddar (a fall 2019 runway color) yellow leather.
Athleisure is the trend that keeps giving, and its latest offering is as unexpected as it is stylish. The bike shorts were worn with blazers by many style-savvy showgoers this fashion month. Offering a fresh blend of sportswear and tailoring, the look was both striking and chic. Of course, while it may not be appropriate for either the office or the gym, the outfit is perfect for strutting the streets or attending Sunday brunch with your best friends. So, don’t be afraid to try it for yourself.
However, there was also a little bit of room for fantasy and drama, particularly in the form of copious ruffles and voluminous garments, as we saw overt sexiness in the form of see-through clothing, visible lingerie, and corsetry. If you want to treat high fashion as escapism, these are likely the fall/ winter 2019 fashion trends that you will appreciate the most. So, without further ado, let’s get into the details of what we’ll all be wearing soon!
